Tax season is upon us and depending on your income situation, you may qualify to have your tax filing prepared for free at a number of tax clinics scheduled throughout the GTA over the next two months.
These usually take place at local community centres, public libraries, and social service agencies. Some of these locations also offer free seminars on how to prepare your own tax return.
Contact your local community centre or check the following sites for more information:
Institute of Chartered Accounts of Ontario
Post-secondary students can also check with their students’ union for info on any free tax clinics taking place on campus.
Deadline to file your tax return is April 30, 2008.
its for people who make under 25k and have a simple return like just a t4 and tuition slip. anything more complicated like investments and stuff, they probably won’t do.
Several tax software programs will let you file for free if your income is under that amount as well.
If you prepare your own taxes, try StudioTax – I’ve been using that for the past couple of years. It’s completely free, regardless of income level.

it is better to have accountant do it, volunteer can make mistake and you might get less money back. if you want to do on computer, i think if you can buy something like quicktax is better than free program.
Actually you can input your tax info in most tax websites for free, it just cost money when you actually want to file the results. Even if you pay someone to do your taxes, it doesn’t hurt to try out a program just to get a rough idea. Even professionals can miss things.
http://freetaxsoftware.ca has a list of some free ones. Although if it came to choose between using a website or downloading a program, I’d rather download and do it on my computer. I wouldn’t feel comfortable inputting all my private information online.
Filing your return online is alot faster. if you do it the old fashion way and mail it in, it takes much longer to get your money.
