Free Outdoor Movie Screenings at Downsview Park

Downsview Park has been holding free friday night movie screenings this summer as part of Movies Under the Stars.

The August lineup is:

  • Aug 1 – The Bee Movie
  • Aug 15 – Shrek The Third
  • Aug 22 – Surf’s Up
  • Aug 29 – To be determined

2008 Beaches International Jazz Festival

The 20th edition of the annual Beaches International Jazz Festival is now underway. Featuring free performances from many Canadian and international jazz talents, the festival runs over the course of two weekends:

July 18-20 Woodbine Park
July 24-26 StreetFest on Queen St. East (7pm – 11pm)
July 26-27 Kew Gardens

Honest Ed’s 60th Anniversary Celebration

This Sunday, July 20th, from 10am to 9pm, Honest Ed’s – the bargain shopping landmark at Bloor & Bathurst, will be celebrating its’ 60th anniversary with free food and games, and of course, great deals! A highlight of the event will be a fashion show beginning at 2pm, organized by the Ryerson School of Fashion.

Sunday Serenades at Mel Lastman Square

Drop by Mel Lastman Square on Sunday evenings this summer from 7:30 – 9pm and enjoy swing and big band music as part of Sunday Serenades.

Free Screening of “Heroes of the East” at Innis Town Hall

Fans of classic Hong Kong kung fu cinema will want to catch a free screening of 1978’s Heros of the East (Shaolin Challenges Ninja) this Saturday afternoon, July 19th – 2:30PM, at UofT’s Innis Town Hall. The screening is free, however reservations are required.

Star of the film, Gordon Liu, who also appeared in Kill Bill 1&2 will be in attendance and conducting a Q&A after the screening.
