Home Movie Day

This Saturday, October 18th is Home Movie Day, “a celebration of amateur films and filmmaking held annually at many local venues worldwide”.

The event will offer an “intriguing selection of local home movies and the opportunity to meet with archivists and learn about film preservation”.

It is being hosted by the The Film Reference Library at Cinematheque Ontario (Jackman Hall at the Art Gallery of Ontario), from 12 – 5pm.

Free Books from International Festival of Authors

The 29th annual International Festival of Authors takes place at Harbourfront Centre from October 22 – November 1, 2008.

As part of the Random Gifts of Reading initiative, they will be giving away over 1000 paperbacks by authors participating in the festival, during the morning between 6-8:30am, tomorrow (Thursday, October 16th).

Books will be left on newspaper boxes and storefront ledges on Queen Street West, from Trinity Bellwoods to Nathan Phillips Square, along Queens Quay West, and in the Financial District.

The books will be wrapped with a sleeve advertising the festival along with a label, “take me”.

World Press Photo 08

Take in the World Press Photo exhibition at its’ annual Toronto stop at Brookfield Place (formerly known as BCE Place). The collection of powerful and moving images from around the world is presently on display until October 22nd.

Gaming Invasion ’08 at Yonge-Dundas Square

Best Buy Canada is hosting Gaming Invasion ’08, a multi-platform gaming event at Yonge-Dundas Square the weekend of October 17-19th (Fri 2-9pm, Sat 12-9pm, Sun 12-7pm).

This year’s event will showcase some of the year’s most highly anticipated titles including Gears of War II, Guitar Hero World Tour, and Little Big Planet.

An exclusive performance by Juno award-winning band, Mobile, will take place Friday evening, 6:30pm.
